Greyhound Adoption

Valley Race Park is pleased to announce their new partnership with GALT, the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Inc.

GALT is a state wide charity with its roots in the Dallas area, who find loving homes for greyhounds retiring from the racetrack. The combination of GALT wishing to develop contacts in the Rio Grande Valley and Valley Race Park wishing for a more secure future for its own adoption program, this will obviously be the perfect partnership.

Texas is 2nd only to Florida in producing greyhounds, and with all greyhounds required to retire from the track by their 6th year and having a normal life span of 12 to 14 years, the problem has arisen where there are more greyhounds than the current adoption programs can cope with. The aims of GALT are to operate and staff as an adoption center and kennel facility, and this is exactly what Valley Race Park can provide throughout their 20 week live racing meet, offering immediate support to the dogs coming off the track during the meet.
